SST races Australian Motor Racing Series

SPEED Energy Stadium Super Trucks SST raced once again in Sydney Australia Oct 26-28. The Boost Mobile Stadium Super Trucks were part of the Australian Motor Racing Series AMRS. They had been scheduled to race again in the Australian Supercars Championship Vodafone Gold Coast 600 but that series had suspended its Australian competition license. The suspension caused SST to make last minute changes to their 2018 race schedule and were picked up by the AMRS which is unaffiliated with the Australian Supercars Championship.

The SST suspension stems from an incident in the Barbagallo event when a wheel came off and hit the pedestrian bridge. The bridge is closed during the race and no one was injured. It turns out CAMS had other safety issues that SST claimed to have addressed by replacing cast iron wheels with stronger forged wheels, modifying hood mounts and improving driver training. With the suspension still enforce SST moved to the AMRS event held at Sydney Motorsports Park.

Once racing Matt Brabham took the win on the first day. Gavin Harlien raced to second and Cole Potts was third. On the second day of racing Gavin Harlien stood on top of the podium. Paul Morris crossed over second and third place was Cole Potts. The overall standings for the race weekend went to Gavin Harlien. Cole Potts was second overall on the weekend and Matt Barbham was third.
