2020 LORORS season opener

The 2020 Southern California Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Series got underway Feb 29 and March 1 at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville Ca. Before racing started the 2019 class champions Awards Ceremony was held to honor last year’s champions.

The Fabtech Pro Lite Champion Kyle Knott continued his winning ways in Round 1 this year over Dennis McCarthy and John Holtger third. Then in Sunday’s event Knott was not able to hold off Dennis McCarthy, Pro Open class champion, and had to settle for second. John Holtger was third.

Dustin Nelson won the 2019 Weller Racing SR1 title and came back this year winning Round 1 over Jason Weller and Nick Peery third. Nelson also took home the win on Sunday with Paul O’Brien second and Nick Peery third.

Gunner Kennedy won the 2019 Limited Buggy title and in this year’s Pro Buggy/Limited Buggy/1600 Buggy combined action placed third in the opening round to Zachary Drapkin and D Kent Lothringer, who was the 1600 Buggy 2019 Champion, who was third. In the following race Drapkin, Pro Buggy 2019 Champion, again took the checkers with Kennedy second and Matthew Brister third.

At the end of the 2019 season Chance Haugen became the Dirty Deeds Industries Prod Turbo UTV class champion. Haugen found himself finishing third in Round 1 of 2020 with Corry Weller taking the win and Trey Gibbs second. On Sunday Haugen was able to come back to his winning ways with Chelsea Haugen second and Trey Gibbs third.

The 2019 STEEL-IT Prod 1000 Champion Dallas Nord started the season off with another class win over Dustin Nelson with Billy Nichols third. Nord continued his class dominance on Sunday taking the win over Cody Hodgson and Ben Booker.

Rob Orr was the defending class champion in the Mini Stock action but wasn’t prepared for Nick Schons in Round One as Schons, Mini Open 2019 Champion, took the season opener over Ryan Venegas with Tim Roberts third. Schons again took the win in Round 2 with Rob Orr second and Ryan Venegas third.

Last year’s Cylex Signs Modified Kart Champion Cade Martin came out strong in Round 1 taking the season opener from Karaston Hernandez with Jaden Uribe third. Things turned around for Martin in Round 2 when John Holtger won with Jaden Uribe second and Karaston Hernandez third. Martin finished fifth.

The 2019 AM Ortega J1 Kart Champion was Truly Adams who continued winning in 2020 by winning Round 1 with Stone Hall second and Mikey Childress Jr third. Adams would again take the checkers in Round 2 with Stone Hall second and Tucker Clabaugh third.

KB Engineering RZR 570 2019 Champion was John Koltura and when he came back this year he again took charge of the class by taking the opening win over Parker Christian and Ryle Diel. Koltura also won Round 2 with Parker Christian second and Ryle Diel third.

Brodie Martin was the 2019 Off Road Warehouse J2 Kart Champion but struggled in Round 1 action taking a fourth place in the opener. Rhyan Denney took the first win of the season with Logan Leggitt second and Chaden Zane Minder third. In the next race Talan Martin took the checkers with Brodie Martin second and Logan Leggitt third.

George Llamosas continued his class domination of the RZR 170 class bringing his 2019 Championship effort into this 2020 season by taking Round 1 then came back for a repeat win Round 2.
