Visionary approach pairs mid-size truck with spec components to help affordability
ALBERTVILLE, MINN.~ Championship Off-Road (COR) announces a new PRO SPEC truck class for the 2021 race season to attract drivers to a more affordable form of off-road truck racing.
The PRO SPEC class will feature rear wheel drive mid-size trucks utilizing a Chevrolet Performance V6 aluminum powerplant mated to a G-Force four-speed transmission. Shocks, wheels and fuel, are also considerations for spec components of this class making this an extremely competitive “drivers” class.
“Chevrolet Performance is excited to partner with Championship Off-Road to offer our LV1 EcoTech3 4.3L Direct Injected V6 as a sealed spec engine for the new class,” said Russ O’Blenes, Director of GM Performance and Racing Propulsion Team. “This purpose-built engine package provides our proven GM Truck performance, reliability and efficiency that our racers and customers expect.”
COR Series Director, Frank DeAngelo said, “There are quite a few PRO-light chassis sitting idle across the Midwest due to past circuit rule changes. Combine these with spec components and add a year-end championship purse, the competitiveness of this class should be top notch.”
Championship Off-Road is looking to the future and refuses to let the excitement and entertainment of short course off-road racing go stagnant. Beyond the new Spec truck class, COR is investing in the improvement of their already impressive livestream coverage utilizing drones with never before seen aerial racing coverage in these venues. Livestream viewers tallied over 1.6 million last year and additional viewers will be drawn to racing with a renewed CBS Sports Network contract.
Championship Off-Road Series Director, Frank Deangelo said, “We promised short course racers, its fan base and sponsors a facelift. We’re excited to add new classes for truck racing, as well as two new SxS classes. The first will be for drivers transitioning from Sportsman to PRO (PRO-AM), and the other, a 570-class for teens. The future of short course racing looks bright for all and we are delivering on our promise.”
Championship Off-Road racing begins in Antigo, Wisconsin on June 5, 2021 and includes five additional events running into September at closed course tracks in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan.
