The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, presented by GEICO, started it’s 2018 racing season at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park April 14 in Chandler AZ. The season was scheduled to kick off in March at Glen Helen Raceway but rain put off the opener until now. Fitting opener though as the season will end at Wild Horse Pass in October. A first for this one-night event was the main events being under the lights. Fans seemed to enjoy it as the stadium seating was packed and fans lined the fencing.
Some of the highlights were Carl Renezeder showing up to drive the #7 Red Bull of Brice Menzies. Menzies had suffered a back injury while doing one of his long jumps for Red Bull and gave the seat to Renezeder (who had retired just last season). Renezeder was able to capture the Pro 4 event after hounding Kyle LeDuc most of the race until LeDuc got up on two wheels and Renezeder headed on to the checkers.
Coming off his San Felipe desert win Rob MacCachren continued his winning ways with the Pro 2 win. Ryan Beat brought out a new Pro Lite truck this year and quickly established himself as the one to beat.
Trevor Briska took home the Pro Buggy Unlimited checkers. The huge field of Production 1000 UTV win went to Myles Cheek. In the Modified Kart class Mason Prater took home his first National Series win.
